Can a starter go out without any signs of it going out?
My car was at a body shop to repair a minor dent. It was there for a week and on the day I was suppose to pick up the car, they said the car would not start. Said they got a mechanic to look and said it was the starter and want $700.00 to fix it.
All lights comes on and brake pedal locked.
So is the body shop trying to scam me or can a starter just go out?

Thank you for any advice.

Starters can go out suddenly without warning. I have had it even happen to my own personal car even. I cannot tell you for sure if the body shop is scamming anyone. Cannot see what is going on with the car.

Okay, thanks. Do not want to think bad about other people, but it was just a coincidence that it went out on the day I was going to pick it up.

I seldom have problems with manufactures (usually the ones I get are lifetime warranty anyway!).

My Jeep starter shelled out a few weeks ago, I still had my receipt from, I believe, 1996, Lifetime!

I had the lady at the counter check my pulse.

I still qualified.

This is just one of several that I grabbed as an example

If you or one of yours is handy, you might save a chunk DIY.

I like to offer alternatives if I can.

Yep, I have heard use dealership parts only (every now and again you must) In this case, I am just not seeing it.

Near the bottom of this one you will see I seldom ever have to buy normal wearing out parts for Mr. Jeep (or other vehicles in our family.)

One more secret?

Really not one, just overlooked!

This might even save $40.00 if you do get one.
