Lost my key, it has a chip. A locksmith replaced it which involved playing with a computerized element in the ignition/starter system. A few days later my starter motor fried. Replaced it and within twenty four hours the new starter motor fried too. Could the chip in the new key be activating the starter motor when the car is running and destroying the starter motor? My mechanic is baffled.
