Start signal?

I had to replace the starter and the battery at the same time. The new starter is wired in the same as the old one (which worked but was worn out). 5 wires, btw. Now, when I turn on the key, all the proper idiot lights come on, but when I turn the switch to the start position, nothing happens. Not even a click. There is no starter relay on this car, only a 50-amp fuse, which is good. I’m puzzled as to what it could be. Please help.

It sounds like you have a defective starter, or it is wired incorrectly. To confirm the issue, I have included a guide that will help you check for power at the trigger wire when in the crank position.

Ken. The starter is brand new, and it works fine if I jump the solenoid. All I can think of is that it is not getting a start signal. This year's model does not have a starter relay, only a 50-amp fuse, which is good. I’m getting frustrated with the whole project. I need the car to run, but I swear I’m ready to use some dynamite to solve the problem.

I hear you, please look at the starter trigger circuit wiring diagrams above and use this guide to see where you lose power at:

It looks straight forward, there is no security system involved.
