Does it seem as though the idle is just too low? I have to be honest, this could be several different things. First, if the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. Let me know if any are found.
If the light isn't on, check for engine vacuum leaks. Here is a link that shows how that is done:

Next, if nothing is found, it could be related to a dirty throttle body or even an Idle air control module (IAC). The IAC is responsible for idle speed. Here is a link showing how to clean a throttle body:
