Hello AHARTLEY,
Sounds like it could be the belt to me since it is stopping when it heats up. I am thinking the belt is softening when it heats up. However, the bearings in a pulley can cause a similar noise that may go away after it has been spinning for a bit.
To check I have added a diagram on common belt issues. I would look more at glazing and the condition of the grooves. Modern belts don't crack, because they are made of a different material called EPDM so you might not see that depending on the last time it was changed.
When checking the pulleys pay extra attention to the flat ones and see if they have been smoothed out or look shiny. This could tell you where the belt might be slipping and could indicate an issue with that component. You can try using some emery cloth or fine grit sandpaper lightly to take the shine off them so the belt will grip the pulley better.
The best way to check all of this is to remove the belt and spin all the idler and tensioner pulleys and see if they make any noise and holding the pulley and try moving it side to side and see if there is any play.
I would also try spinning the water pump and see if it is binding. The belt can also slip on the water pump and the power steering pump in they are having issues.
If you haven't replaced the belt in a while and none of the pulleys are making noise or feel like they are binding, I would start by replacing the belt since you will be removing it to check the pulleys.
Before removing the belt take some photos with your phone so you can make sure it goes on the same way it came off.
I will also add a belt routing diagram for you but there are a couple different configurations.
I would start there. Let me know what you find.
Thank you,
Brendon
