Sputtering on acceleration and excessive vibration

My vehicle is the MK3 model. It vibrates excessively on idle and is at times mistaken for a diesel engine because of the sound it makes. It gets quieter when you drive off. On acceleration it sputters, gives off this choking sound and has very minimal power. At higher revs the sputtering is minimal.

This sounds like an ignition system issue which can be solve by giving the engine a tune up. Here is a guide to help you get started:

Do not forget to clean the throttle body.
