Hi,

The sensor is tested by having a scan tool that can read live data. With this tool, you would be looking for a signal from the vehicle speed sensor.

What I would recommend is to scan the can-bus to see if there are codes stored. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, the different computers/modules are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link showing how it is done:

As far as just replacing the sensor, I can't say that will resolve the issues. Are there any other lights on such as the ABS or traction control?

Let me know.

check engine light is not on. service engine and service stability come on display above radio just push button and it goes away. engine works okay, transmission works ok. took it to AutoZone they plugged in scanner. diagnostic trouble codes were power train system -secondary DTCs-po573-00-brake switch circuit 1 high voltage. anti-lock brake system- b3903, c0460-steering position sensor malfunction, c0461-steering position sensor range and u100-class 2 data link malfunction. The odometer has 150000 + miles on it the scanner reads 1385 miles. Can you help? i can't afford to take it to the shop and spend hours looking for the problem unless that's my last resort. i would appreciate any help you can give me, thanks.

Hi,

I looked through all the codes you provided, and they are all interrelated. At this point, I feel you should start with checking the steering angle sensor to start.

If you look below, I attached the directions specific to the C0460. You will see how thing things tie together.

Let me know if you are comfortable performing the diagnostics.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

I suspect it's the diagnostic charts. I recopied them below and did half a page at a time, so it is a lot bigger. Let me know if that helps. Also, if you need other pages enlarged, let me know.

Take care,

Joe
