The speedometer while sitting idle in the car the speedometer will go all the way over or over until about 3:00 and just sit there and fluctuate around while driving the speedometer still does nothing but fluctuate around 3:00 area sometimes it will flip all the way back to zero and stay there the trip set works most of the time. I inherited this car and it would be nice to have the speedometer to work.

Hi,

It sounds like you have a short to power. The speedometer receives a signal from the vehicle speed sensor located on the transmission. If it is staying at 3 most of the time, something is sending power or a signal when it shouldn't, or the instrument cluster has an internal short.

If you look below, I attached a wiring schematic of the instrument cluster. I highlighted two wires I need you to check for power when the vehicle is not moving. One wire is green and the other is green with a black tracer.

Simply disconnect the connector and check those pins for power. The key will need to be on.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,
