speedometer and odometer stop working after driving a short distance

while driving a short distance the speedometer stops working. when this happens the odometer stops as well.

it sounds like the vehicle speed sensor went out, just to be sure scan the computer for codes. Also check all fuses. Here are a couple of guides to help you on your way.
