I have a 1977 280Z with orginal engine and approx 170K miles. Starts when cold, but dregrades to a misfiring sound or less than 6 cylinders after driving at freeway speeds. Must cool down before normal start up again. Sometimes this takes a day. Could this be "heat soak" on coils, airflowmeter issues, or California Gas??? Can anyone help with this probelm?

I would start with checking coil plugs and ignition leads, and if it still has a points ignition check that as well including the carbon brush in the dist cap.
