Alternator swap

Alternator may have gone bad. buddy of mine is willing to sell me the alternator of a 2003 Mustang. my question is, will it be fit, is it compatible due to year gap in make?

We need to know the info on the alternator. Is there a part number? Or what engine did the 2003 Mustang have in it? Is this the stock alternator out of that vehicle? As it sits, it looks like the only alternators that fit an 2003 Mustang 3.8L are from 01-03. So this would not fit your 1998.
