Clutch was recently replaced in the C7 Corvette Stingray prior to me purchasing. I'm not sure if this is related, but shifting into 7th and reverse, somewhat in 6th, takes a lot more effort than the lower gears. Reverse probably being the worst. I was told it could possibly be the alignment of the shifter?

Yes, the shifter rod can be the problem, but the clutch itself may also be an issue, can I ask if you can run through the gears easily with the engine off? (Clutch depressed). If so, the clutch could be an issue, here is the shift rod and how to adjust it. I also included how to remove the shifter in case you need it. Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response of any problems so we can see what to help you with.

Still feels the same with clutch in and car not started. Kinda interesting how almost all the gears on the right shift harder.

Yep, this will be the shift rod then. Something is it not adjusted right or the shift rod got bent during the repair.

No! Don't say that! Can it cause more damage if I continue to drive it, if I stay in 6th gear until I can get it into a shop? I don't want to make it worse! Also, what is removed to get to the shift rod?

Yep, sorry but the transmission will need to come back out. Here is what needs to be done to fix it, I would not drive it too much until you can get it into the shop for repairs. Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes.

Hello again, Ken. Sorry for the delayed response. I wanted to drive the car more to get a feel for it because I've learned the Stingray drives alot different than my Mustang. Definitely two different animals. Just a reminder that a dealership replaced the clutch in the car about 300 miles before I bought it. Previous owner sold it 200 miles after the clutch replacement - don't know for sure why though. When I purchased it the clutch fluid was black with a white greasy like substance floating on top and a slight bit of sand on the cap (Florida). The reservoir was just hanging and not secured.
As you recommended, I had the shift realigned and now 7th and reverse are better. However, now I've had problems with 1st (in neutral at the light and would not smoothly shift into 1st). There have been times when it would not go into 2nd and 3rd - both times when turning - that sounds more like a coincidence?). Twice it wouldn't shift into 6th. Some shifts have a mushy feel to them. At the rear of the car you can hear an intermittent clunk sound when shifting - all lower gears only. Not sure if this is common for the Stingray. Have heard both sides. I can't be 100% sure, but I started hearing the clunk once the shifter was realigned. I hadn't had the car that long though to remember if it was there before. Dealership says it's a shift issue so it's not related to the clutch replacement. But linked parts are moved in order to replace the clutch parts. I'm hoping to go back to the dealership with a strong argument that the shift rod was bent. Is there a way to tell that without removing the tranny? If they pull the tranny again, and nothing is found, I'm looking at about $4k out of my pocket. Thank you for your help.

Not really, the transmission must be removed to check the shift rod. To me though it sounds like the clutch disc got damaged while installing it. You might want to try replacing the clutch master cylinder because the the fluid sounds like it is contaminated which will hinder its operation. I am sorry you are having these issues, I would call around to see if you can find a corvette specialist that knows these cars and have them take a look at it. You can see by the diagrams below the shift rod is internal.
