I have changed and I replaced one of the solenoid (black colour solenoid) and it is a used solenoid. The brand name is (bosh). I also changed the transmission fluid. I bought the solenoid from someone who fix BMW cars. However, when I drive the car it changes gear 1,2,3, 4 times rough but not smooth. When the car stops and to move again it does not change gear again but in order for it to change gear again, I would have to turn off the vehicle and restart it again for it to change gear.Do you think the car needs to programme or reset to fix the problem? What do you think?

Hello,

You must have the correct fluid in the transmission are it will act the way you are describing. Also, I would run the codes to see if any are stored. This video will help you gather the codes please list any here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBCpCWEFnTg&t

I would dump the fluid out and refill it with Please go over this guide and get back to me. Here is the fluid type to be used.

Shell M-1375.4 / ZF Lifeguard 6 equivalent

The ZF transmission is temperamental of the fluid type and will make the shifting erratic. Let me know how it goes

For the 2003 S-Type, the fluid answer depends on which transmission it has:

1. If it has the ZF 6HP26 6-speed transmission:
Liqui Moly Top Tec ATF 1800 is generally listed for ZF 6HP19/26/32 and ZF 8HP

2. If it has the Ford/Jaguar 5R55N 5-speed transmission:
Then Liqui Moly 1800 would not be my first choice. That transmission normally calls for Mercon V type fluid, not the low-viscosity ZF 6/8-speed style fluid.

Which transmission do you have?

You have the base 3.0 engine which was most commonly used with the Ford 5 speed not the 6 speed. A quick way to tell is to simply look at the shifter, does it say D-5 or or D-6 on it when shifted? I suspect it's the 5 speed and it doesn't like the thinner oil you used. Drain and fill with Shell M-1375.4 and you should see it improve provided the internal hard parts are not the issue.
