My van failed smog. Mil/check engine light due to OBD communication failure.

Ignition timing check due to engine rpm being out of tolerance.

What could the problem's? do I have to get a new computer for my van or what could cause this?

you need to have a mechanic check for a broken wire/bad connection etc. he has to scan for codes to see where to start.

How will he scan for codes if the OBD will not communicate with the scanner?
