small leak

Two to three inch small puddle of black or dark fluid, not water next to rear driver side tire under car. car is flawless, has never leaked anything at anytime. fluid is somewhat thick and seems to be odorless.

remove the fill plug at the differential, put your little finger in there and touch the fluid, bring it out and compare that to what you found. If that is the same, you may have a leaking rear axle seal on that side.

I would concur, thick and dark sounds like gear lube. Usually it stinks like crazy. Could also be brake fluid if it has not been flushed out in a while. Are the brakes grabby on that side or is this a stored car at the moment? Always liked the Chevelle. They look good and could be made to run..

Yesterday car went up on a lift. Found out the leak was coming from the shock. Today both shocks will be replaced and that should put an end to this. Thanks for your response.

That is something different. Rust hole or bad seal? Never seen one on a street vehicle leak bad enough to form a puddle. If the fronts are the same vintage you may want to check them over as a precaution.
