It is okay to start the engine after it has been turned off for eight hours or more. It needs to be crank a couple of times after the engine is turned off for two to three hours. Also, check engine light and VSC light are on. Please advice. According to one of the mechanics, leaks were fixed. New gas cap was replaced. He said manifold needed to be checked :one by one? I do not understand what that means.

Hi GRSUNG,

Since the check engine light is on, that means trouble codes are present and in order to understand the problem, we need to know the exact diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

Get the code and let us know what it is, it could be more than one.

I took it to AutoZone. The diagnostic code is P0446, indicating a fault in the Evaporative Emission System Vent Control electrical circuit for a predetermined period of time. Is it indicating problems with manifold?

No, this usually is due to a broken wire of the EVAP solenoid. However to confirm the actual cause you need to have the wiring checked. It could also be due to a faulty or sticking EVAP solenoid.

The problem started off with loosing power. The dealer replaced the throttle. It took them more than 2 weeks to get the part. A few days later, engine and VSC lights came on. Dealer replaced gas cap and claimed that the leak was fixed. They said if the lights came on again, they needed 4-6 hours to check manifold, quoting me $800. Where is EVAP solenoid located if I check it myself.

Please recommend a trustworthy shop/mechanic. I have a hard time tracing the leak. A mechanic told me that he needed to do smoke test in order to locate the leak. Please advise/help. My zip code is 77079.

The best thing to do is do a search in your area and check out the Google or Yelp reviews.

Please let us know what they find. We are interested to see what it is.
