slow to accelerate and hard to start

Hi,

Is there ever a time that it won't restart? As far as the tachometer is concerned, that is an indicator there could be an issue with the crankshaft position sensor.

Also, let me know if the check engine light is staying on when the engine is running. This could be related to a plugged catalytic converter, low fuel pressure, and so on. Additionally, let me know if the vehicle has been tuned up since it was new.

I have put 74,000 miles on the car and have never done a tune-up. It has stalled when idling at a light or in a parking lot. The check engine light does not go on. Repair shop put on the diagnostic machine but nothing new showed up. I take the car back to them on Monday to replace the shocks and brakes. I will have them check the Crankshaft sensor as well. I haven't tried to start it since I parked it on Monday evening to see if things work when cooled down. Will give that a try tonight. Would that also cause a car to be slow in accelerating up to speed? Further reading said possible low transmission fluid but haven't checked it yet.

The idea that the tachometer drops to 0 while driving is what makes me think it could be related to a crankshaft position sensor. As far as the low power, it could be several things such as a plugged or partially catalytic converter, a fuel pressure issue, and so on. However, those wouldn't cause the tach to drop.

Certainly, check the transmission fluid. If it is low, it could allow the transmission to slip which would make it slower to accelerate.

Not yet. The tow driver left keys above visor instead of putting in drop box as requested so didn't realize my car was there until yesterday afternoon.

Just heard back from repair shop. It did turn out to be the Crankshaft Sensor as you had suggested. They could not get a code to produce. I advised them of your information, and they were eventually able to take care of the problem by replacing the sensor. Thank you for your wonderful help!
