When I went to sell my SUV the potential buyer pointed out that the transmission was slipping a little bit between 2nd and 3rd gear changes when you accelerated.

I never noticed it in the past because I am light on the gas pedal. We have used the SUV for light to medium light towing over the past 2 years, approximately 10 occasions.

I changed the fluid and filter (didn't pump it all out) about 120,000 miles ago (after getting advice from a GM engineer). The fluid appears clean and there is no odor, although it may be a little low.

Questions- do you think a fresh oil and filter change might correct the problem?

Are additives a possible solution?

Barring a fix you might suggest that works, is there any likelihood that that transmission would hold up for another 50,000 miles, or is it on its way to fully break down soon?

As always, thanks in advance.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Considering you've already been able to achieve 286,000 miles already you are already ahead of the game. The GM 4L60E transmissions are prone to only making it to 250,000 miles until needing a complete rebuild. I doubt a transmission service will fix that slight slip so maybe you can try Lucas brand automatic transmission additive to see if it might help. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
