When you say the key is stuck, does it not turn at all, or it just won't shut off?

Here is a guide that will get us started on a stuck key issue but if this will turn then this may not apply:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/ignition-switch-wont-turn-stuck

Basically, I think if the engine will crank but does not start, we need to figure out what we don't have that is causing the engine to not start.

This would be air, fuel, and spark. Basically, we could just have a blown fuse or some other issue like this if all you did was slam on the brakes. That could also explain why the key is stuck.

So, let's figure out what you don't have or is this not cranking at all?

Let's start with all this info and then we can figure out the direction to go.

Thanks

Missed my turn hit the brakes hard, the car stopped running and wouldn't start. Put battery on charger. Key acts like it stuck in radio on mode. Key won't come out of slot. Drains battery. And won't start.

This is strange so I understand the need for the question. At this point, we are going to have to start at the basics. We need to check all fuses and find out if when you hit the brakes it didn't blow some fuses. I assume the ABS kicked in so maybe we popped a fuse or two.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

I can understand if it stalled and will restart but the no start is what makes this odd.

So, let's crank the engine and find out if we have spark and fuel and go from there.

Once we know this, we will have a better idea where to go but hopefully you find a fuse or two and this is all fixed.

When you turn the key dash lights come on but nothing after. No dings for door open, can hear fuel pump. But when you try to start there is nothing at all. When shifter is in park without hitting button to move to drive or neutral you can just move it to next gear.

Okay. Thanks for that info. I think I am starting to get a better picture as to what the issue is.

I am not sure how this happened, but this shifter has what is called a shift interlock and it is what tells the vehicle that it is in park, and it is okay to start. Also, it will prevent the key from being removed if the vehicle is not in park.

So, I suspect this is broken and we need to check it or replace it.

Please run through this replacement and access the interlock and see what it looks like. There are pictures below of what it should look like.

Let me know if you can get a picture of this and we can go from there.

Thanks

You are correct. Also, I missed a fuse. Thank you for letting me pick your brain.
