The air cleaner box moves real bad on acceleration due to lack of airflow. Trying to get up to speed pressing the gas pedal hard, the rev limiter kicks in at 4,000 RPMs with a 6,500 redline. It will shift when letting off of the accelerator and quickly downshifts. I was told that the lack of airflow into the intake. Nobody I’ve talked to can give an exact answer. I’ve changed all the TPS, MAF, MAP, and cam sensors. Tried a new IAC and no change. I’m not sure how to get back on here to check for responses.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Just a quick question first. Is the check engine light on? It sounds like you might possibly have a plugged exhaust or catalytic converter. Here are a few tutorials showing catalytic converter symptoms and testing:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/bad-catalytic-converter-symptoms

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-a-catalytic-converter

If exhaust is plugged and can't exit then you will not be able to intake air into the engine. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

I had the catalytic converter tested earlier today. It’s not clogged up. Symptoms are similar to an intake manifold runner control valve being stuck closed by the videos and articles I have read. I don’t think my car has that though. The exhaust tech said it has to be a vacuum restriction. He said it can throw all kinds of codes. I got a p1696. I don’t remember the other codes, but it said cylinder 3 and 4 circuits are open. We put a computer on it and all of them would shut off and on. I’ve seen a lot of crazy stuff in my time, but this has me thrown for a loop. Can’t afford to really get in depth diagnostics. Most people I’ve talked to said they couldn’t tell me exactly without actually looking at it. The only thing I have found similar is that runner control valve though.

Hello again.

Here are diagnostic steps for code P1696. This code has a lot to do with the PCM- powertrain control module. I've attached the steps below. Let us know what you find and keep us updated. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

I am not sure I’ve seen one of those types of scan tools. I’m just curious if that air restriction could cause that code because of the PCM not getting a proper reading.

Hello again.

Yes, that is a Dodge specific scan tool with Dodge software. The basic scanners-code readers like from Pep Boys don't even come close to reading those type of faults or information. You can find them online for $4,000.00 or maybe a neighbor or friend can let you borrow. Have you taken the intake system apart to see if there is a restriction? Thanks again for using 2CarPros.

I have not gotten to take the intake apart yet. I’ve been researching like crazy to see if anybody else has had the same problems that I am. I can’t find anything. With the breather box taking off of the little rubber and rubber intake hose, it will alot of air into the throttle body, but it pops pretty bad. The only thing I can think of is the flap on the breather box where, that rubber hose that was mentioned before, hooks onto the breather box under the IAC.

But it's still not getting air through the intake properly according to the muffler tech. I get good exhaust at idle and hardly no exhaust when I accelerate.

Was told it was most likely a valve. Going to do a compression test and see what happens.
