Vehicle will not go more than 35 mph then engine revs . Could a faulty knock sensor cause this?

No, the knock sensor will not cause this issue.

It does sound like the transmission is not shifting into a higher gear.

How long since you change the oil and filter in the transmission?

Is the check engine light on? If it is, do you know the codes?
