Shift cable adjustment

Is there a way to adjust the shift cable or a certain gear you should have it in when you hook it up? I recently swapped out my transmission and can't put it in park or first unless I manually do it on the transmission. I've already tightened up the shifter torx bolts so it's not a loose shifter.

Hi,

As far as adjustment, there is an adjustment procedure at the transmission shift cable bracket. I attached the directions below.
