When the car comes to a stop light it is sluggish and shakes and backfires a little. I put it into park at stop lights so that it won't stall.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Quick question first, did this erratic performance and backfire turn the check engine light on? Let me know and we'll go from there. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Hello again.

Okay, the first thing that needs to be done is have the check engine light codes retrieved.Having the light come on means a code or codes are stored in the vehicles computer. If you don't have access to a code reader/scanner most auto parts stores have a tool loaner program and can rent you one. Some parts store like AutoZone can check the codes for free. Here is a tutorial that shows what is involved for code checking:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

After this is performed get back to me with the code number(s) and we can properly diagnose the problem.Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Hello,

This first code is for the EVAP ssytem which has a leak. so I would start by checking the all vent and vacuum lines to the system. Next is a P0303 which is # 3 cylinder is having a problem. lets remove the park plug and do a compression test. Please upload a picture of the plug so I can see whats going on. Here are two guides to help us:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-change-spark-plugs

and

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-engine-compression

Please run down these guides and report back.
