Sunroof inoperable, same for driver side set, traction light on, no throttle response

I am just afraid they all related cause if the water that yot in. Maybe the sunroof stopped working and then when water came in messed up the seat and the gas pedal sensor. Can you just tell me where the ecu is? I'll send it for repair, if they find nothing, they won't charge me anything.

This sounds like the front SAM control module is out which is common, here is the location so you can get it checked out. I have also included the ECM location as well. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Which if these is the SAM module? How do i test it? And does it need programming? I don't see any diagrams.

I found it, very tight space, any instructions on how to remove it? I think i see 4 torx bolts that hold it down, just want to make sure.

Removed it based on videos. Some guy also said SAM for the other one that is by the battery, not sure why. First picture is mine.

N10/1 Front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module

Location
The front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module is located at the left in the engine compartment.

Task
Two microprocessors are installed in the front SAM control unit, one for control of basic functions such as, e.g. the exterior lights (ABL), and the second for control of the central gateway functions. Both processors communicate internally with each other over the interior CAN (CAN B) and they can undergo separate diagnosis. The front SAM control unit also has a 3D acceleration sensor integrated into it which is used to detect any crash events.

For model 204.9 a speedy journey over uneven roads can cause significant vibrations which in turn may induce the 3D- acceleration sensor to be actuated. These are entered into an event memory. When mounting, make sure that the front SAM control unit is securely seated.

The processor is responsible for the following tasks for controlling the central gateway functions:
- Central gateway (CAN interface)
- Data container
- System diagnosis
- Global variant coding
- Monitoring CAN bus idle

The processor is responsible for the following tasks for controlling the basic functions:
- Interior CAN and LIN interface
- Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Controlling functions
- Actuation of components

The fuse and relay module of the front SAM control unit supplies various systems and control units with power through limit switches to match the function sequence.

The following tasks are the responsibility of the fuse and relay module:
- Voltage supply to components
- Power supply and relay switching
- Switching consumers using relays

Central gateway (CAN interface)
The processor for controlling the central gateway functions also acts as an interface between the following data bus systems:
- Interior CAN
- Diagnostic CAN (CAN D)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Front end CAN (CAN G)

Data container
The data container represents a nonvolatile, mobile data memory and is managed by the processor for controlling the central gateway functions.

Benefits:
During production, vehicle-specific, test location-specific and control unit-specific data are stored in the data container (e.g. production number, test status, partial tests not completed). These data can be used in the subsequent tests for test sequence control. The total size of the data memory is 128 bytes.

System diagnosis
The system diagnosis is integrated as a software module in the processor for controlling central gateway functions.
For off-board diagnosis, the following on-board functions are realized by the processor responsible for controlling the central gateway functions:
- CAN line diagnosis
- CAN SPECIFIED/ACTUAL configuration
- Data logger for telediagnosis

Global variant coding
The processor responsible for controlling the central gateway functions forwards global information such as model series and national version over the various CAN buses to the networked control units. The control units perform part of their configuration process to match this information.

Monitoring CAN bus idle
The monitoring of the CAN bus idle enables control units to be determined, which keep the CAN bus active at what otherwise is expected to be a CAN bus idle period.

This information is filed in a nonvolatile memory. This in turn serves to ensure that even when the on-board electrical system battery (G1) has been discharged and following a reset of the networked control units, it is still possible to determine whether the discharging of the on-board electrical system battery was caused by the network or by an individual CAN user.

Interior CAN and LIN interface
The processor for controlling the basic functions also acts as an interface between the following data bus systems:
- Instrument panel LIN (LIN 1)
- Wiper/inside rearview mirror LIN (LIN 2)
- Interior CAN

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Instrument panel LIN
- Wiper/inside rearview mirror LIN
- CAN

Direct line
The processor for actuating the base functions reads in the signals of the following components over direct lines:
- Refrigerant pressure sensor (B12)
- Outside temperature sensor (B14)
- Interior temperature sensor with integrated fan (N70/3b1) (without code (414) Electric glass tilting/sliding roof)
- Exterior lights switch (S1) (as of 1.6.10)
- Right front brake wear sensor (S10/2)
- Right rear brake wear sensor (S10/4)
- Brake fluid level switch (S11)
- Parking brake indicator switch (S12)
- Backup lamp switch (S16/2) (for transmission 711, 716)

Wiper/inside rearview mirror LIN
The processor responsible for controlling the basic functions reads in the signals from the following components over a wiper/inside rearview mirror LIN:
- Inside rearview mirror (A67) (with code (249) Automatically dimming inside rearview mirror and outside mirror (driver))
- Garage door opener (A67n2) (with code (232) Garage door opener with frequency 284-390 MHz)
- Light sensor (B38/1) (model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.11, model 204.9 without code (345) Rain sensor)
- Rain/light sensor (B38/2) (model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.11, model 204.9 with code (345) Rain sensor, model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.11, model 204.3)
- Interior temperature sensor with integrated fan (N70b1) (with code (414) Electric glass tilting/sliding roof)

The communication with the processor responsible for controlling the central gateway functions can also send the data read in by the processor responsible for controlling the basic functions to control units that are not connected to the interior CAN.

CAN
The processor responsible for controlling the basic functions reads in function-relevant data over the interior CAN.
Information from control units that are not connected to the interior CAN are sent by the processor responsible for controlling the central gateway functions over the interior CAN. This can be information from control units, which are connected to one of the following CANs:
- Chassis CAN
- Front end CAN
- Diagnostic CAN

The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the processor responsible for controlling the basic functions whereupon the corresponding components are then actuated.

Controlling functions
The processor responsible for controlling the basic functions manages the following functions:
- ABL
- Interior illumination (IBL)
- Wiper system (WSA)
- Windshield washer heater (with code (875) Heated windscreen washing system)

All of that is controlled by this box. Geez... what does it have in it other than fuses? This is amazing. I ordered one with same part number.

I know, right? They have an integrated circuit board inside. Let me know how it goes.

Replaced SAM, same issues if not more.

Also, even though it has the sane exact numbers, sometimes it will start others not, and when turning radio on it says anti-theft. Had lots of codes, reset it, disconnected battery and connected sane thing. Ugh, i may put the old one back and recheck fuses. The large red wire on bottom of this SAM u it is pain to remove and out back.

I also connected the battery wrong for a second it sparked and i knew it, so I immediately removed it.

I reinstalled the first one and got it to start again, no throttle response and some codes. I think when i crossed the battery i blew something off. All fuses are good in the SAM module. Are there fusible links anywhere else? Based on the code terminal 15 is faulty that is why most of the time it won't start now.

Also, can you tell me what function does the solid red thick wire at the corner has?

Found out there us a pool of water underneath the driver side carpet. I cleaned it all and unplugged each connector, some had water other corrosion, cleaned with brake cleaner and blew it with air for now since i don't have electric spray. Still no throttle but it started, windows worked, radio screen works but no audio, lights work, tilt doesn't, sunroof doesn't. Throttle only works if i floor it and rom would start to got it higher. Is there a way to find out which of these little boards here have to do with throttle, sound, tilt and sunroof?

Traction has been on from before and still is but i never saw this code. While parked engine revs on its own. Also, it's strange that the throttle just flies on its own without touching the pedal all the way up and i have to turn it off. The sunroof may have been the main issue. It stopped working maybe due to a bad motor or all these electrical issues started, and the sunroof was stuck open, and water got in. Common on these junk cars.

Sorry, you have two questions going on at once, I think I found the issue with the water damage, was this car under water? If so, you will need to remove all the control modules and clean the correction from the connectors. Once that is done, clear all codes and rescan the car. Can you do a complete CAN scan? No not under water, this is a common issue with these cars always leak there for some reason, everywhere else is dry. I will do a complete scan.

way too many codes, either major wiring or control module issue. Can you clear the codes and then just turn the key on without trying to start the engine and recheck the codes?

This is after deletion. Most have to do with pedal sensor i guess except the first. I am just trying to narrow it down. As soon as i started the motor after deleting them all the engine started revving on its own real high and i turned it off.

Yep, this shows a bunch of electrical problems. It looks like the wiring harness could be bad or one of the SAM modules is still having an issue. You might want to try and leave the battery disconnected overnight to see if that does anything.

Okay. All the wires look good, none are torn or showing corrosion, but I will get an electrical cleaner and spray them all and see.

Replaced the gas pedal and sprayed all wire connectors and breakers under the carpet with electric cleaner. Started with no check engine light or traction. Throttle now solved. Most codes are gone. Deleted most and most were gone. Seat, sunroof, power tilt and radio sound still inoperable. First pic was from SAM module, deleted them and they gone. I think the battery was low.

Can you send me the wiring diagram to the front SAM module? I need to find a way to connect this big red wire where it doesn't come loose as the connector was so difficult to remove it broke the plastic connector around it, so i can now connect it but an sure at any point it will come loose. I can't find the plastic connector sold alone so i will need to find a way or replace that wire, just need to know where it goes

Also, where the fiber optics equipment so i can try to bypass it using the bypass tool?

The roof motor replaced, and sunroof now works. Is there any way you can find out for me the location of the modules like the telephone module, radio module, amplifier so i can try to bypass them and see if one is causing the sound issue.

Not that I know of.

Sound fixed. Underneath the passenger floor by firewall on bottom behind the metal plate is a connector, bypassed it and all is good now. Only thing left is the power driver seat and power tilt.

Fixed seat and tilt. Checked fuses 45, 50, and 62 which have to do with the seat on driver seat, 62 was not even there, inserted one and everything worked except the front back of the seat, checked power to the motor and it's there, tapped on the motor a bit and all Is good one. I just have to put it all back together now. Thanks
