Hi all,

Cheap, no knowledge but eager needs your help deciding how to approach resolving this with my garage or if this is minor fuse issues that I can do myself?

The SES light came on last week but went off after tightening the fuel cap. However, light came back on later next day or so and has remained on.

A well known parts store gave me the following DTC codes at OBD-codes. Com:

P0506 (shown two times) Idle Air Control System.

P1000 On board Diag II Monitor/Drive Cycle Not
Complete.

B2103 Antenna not connected.

The vehicle has had a lot of work done to keep it running (below) and I am wondering if the mechanics did not reconnect something properly. What do you all think? Need concrete suggestions. Thanks in advance.

A/C-Heat Actuator Replaced.

Battery is a year old; One cable connector replaced at same time.

Third transmission in five years (long story) have five year warranty now and less than a year.

Radiator two plus years old

Water coolant box (sic).

And a few other things cannot remember.

My knee jerk reaction is that you need a throttle body. Whenever you remove battery power from the PCM your throttle body, throttle plate position data is lost. This is important because over time because a ridge of carbon is formed in your throttle body and the PCM will compensate for this so that it will not stick. I usually clean the throttle body any time I disconnect a battery for any reason to prevent this. Sometimes throttle body replacement is necessary, but I would clean it first. P1000 dtc just means that all of the monitors have not completed, aka- battery unhooked recently or dtcs cleared recently. Ignore the B code unless you have antenna problems.

Hi BMDOUBLE,

I talked with local garage on phone and they are going to try to clear the diagnostics first. If that does not work they think the dealer will have to look at diagnostics due to the PCM concern, P1000. I hope they can clear it because the Ford dealer is outrageously expensive; I always feel they take advantage of me.

P1000 will be there until all monitors complete. A monitor will not complete if there is a concern in the system, which could be your throttle body. P1000 will automatically be there if you clear dtcs or battery voltage loss. Your PCM will clear p1000 after the monitors clear (normally after a forty five minute drive for me).

Well, I will ask them to clean the throttle body if it does not clear. But I wonder if the transmission company should have replaced the PCM since they installed three re-manufactured transmission?

Your knowledge and feedback is helpful!

You are very welcome! It all depends on what transmission concern you had. PCM replacement is pretty rare, for me anyways. Hope they get you taken care of.

I asked about this light earlier today, listing the different work done on SUV and received one reply.

I am wondering if the PCM is required to
be replaced when remanufactured transmission is replaced?

The same transmission center replaced 're-manufactured transmission' three times. Should they not be required to include the PCM? Would the not constant work on transmission affect the PCM?

The garage will try to clear the SES light tomorrow but if that does not work they will likely refer me to dealer.

Good afternoon.

Whenever a transmission is replaced, it is recommended, not required to flash the module so the module knows it has been replaced and it wipes out the memory of the old transmission.

They should be able to do this for you if they are a quality repair shop. It is part of there job and part of the repair.

I bet you are spending a lot of money for this service and if they are unable to perform this update, then they should take the car themselves and have it updated. This is all assuming that there is no issue with the repair.

How does the truck act with the new transmission? Is there an issue?

Hello ASEMASTER6371,

The SUV start is off some; running seems a bit sluggish. It has been a year since the re-manufactured transmission was replaced (again). I had to ramp up my negotiation on obtaining the five year warranty and a slight reduced cost to get them to replace the transmission. The first replacement transmission failed under warranty but the second one failed one year past warranty. I am still angry about it.

Think I will call the transmission garage and tell them it is not running well and ask them if they changed the PCM?

Can you suggest anything or what I can say to get them to replace the PCM free?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Okay, is the transmission the issue or is it the engine that is not running correctly?

Is the transmission new at this point or is it a year old?

The SUV is running. Startup slow (hard to explain) and idle is rough. The transmission is working, no leaks and gets me up hills fine. Last time, transmission fluid flooded driveway and street. First time, it quit running on a hill.

I would live with idle I suppose but the SES Light and DTC's are concerning.

Okay, now we are getting somewhere.

Do you know the codes for the SES light? You may have an engine issue, not a transmission issue. The engine has to be running good for the transmission to perform well.

You can have the codes checked for free at a parts store. Let me know the codes and we can give you possible failures.

Okay, possible causes below:

All these need to be checked to find the failure.

The P1000 will go away after the 506 is set and drive cycle is performed.

Your reply, and another, have been very helpful. I feel I am somewhat informed about where to start. My local mechanic seems worried that the PCM is the main issue but neither you nor the other responder think so. You both think the P1000 will clear once the 506 is cleared or fix found.

This forum is great. Thank you so much for your help.

No to the PCM. It is easy to say that when you are paying for it.

In most cases it is either the throttle body or carbon build up but all that needs to be checked as well.

The P1000 sets when you are driving and a monitor is trying to run a test and the test is interrupted during the test. No big deal, it will clear on its own.
