Service engine soon light and loss of acceleration

Service engine light came on today and before I could get out of parking lot, car would not accelerate and when I pressed on gas it would jerk/jump. Will go in reverse with no problem. No signs of car problems at all. This was sudden.

The first step is to retrieve the trouble codes stored. Here is an article that may help you if you have a code reader:

Once you get the codes post them on here and we will guide you in the right direction.
