I had the light for the last couple hundred miles and was running ok with it as I did not have a chance to work on it. Today made a 15-mile trip and the engine started missing. Then the service engine soon light stated flashing then went solid for a few minutes and started flashing again. The truck felt like it was losing power on and off. Would idle ok but when you started to accelerate would miss. Made it home barely. Did check code before and it said purge solenoid check valve which I could not find. Hope the engine is alright and can be fixed.

Hi,

The EVAP purge solenoid controls the flow of vapors from the EVAP system to the intake manifold. Normally, it is a closed solenoid, and the control module controls the flow of fuel vapor to the engine via this solenoid. It sounds like the one on the truck may be stuck open. Also, when the CEL was flashing, that indicates at that time, the engine had a misfire. Is the purge solenoid the only code you found?

As far as the location, it is right above where the ignition coil pack is located. See pic below.

Let me know i this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you Jacob,

I'm going with the truck back to AutoZone and see if there are some new codes. I'll let you know.

Thanks, Bob

Hello Jacob,

Because I had that PO440 and PO440 code saying it was a canister purge valve solenoid I bought one online and replaced it. Its was a horrible job too get to. I replaced it and after disconnected both positive and negative terminals of the battery for 10 minutes. Started truck and light stayed off. Drove around block and now issues. Thought I smelt fuel at first startup but went away. Drove it they next day and was ok on around the block again. Decided to test old solenoid and resistance was?23 ohms. Passed air through it in both directions and nothing come out the other side. To me at is closed. I heard they fault would be if its were stuck open. Now Im worried if its is fixed. Please help in case it comes back. Afraid to go too far with it.

Hi,

It can be stuck in either direction. Chances are it is fixed. If anything changes, you are always welcome to come back.

Take care of yourself and good job.

Thank you, Jacob,

I have one more question. I am changing the leaking valve cover gasket on this 2006 Toyota Corolla and since I have it apart want to change the plugs. The car is now 18 years old with original plugs and has 75k on it. I won't damage the head will I from waiting too long?
Thanks
