MISS MICHELLE,
THE BEST-US THING TO DO WITH A 2nd HAND VEHICLE IS TO
CHANGE THE OIL AND COOLANT (AT MINIMUM) RIGHT OFF THE BAT!
OTHER FLUIDS MIGHT INCLUDE THE TRANSMISSION/ REAR END (DIFFERENTIAL)/ BRAKE FLUID
I GO 100% OVER BOARD WHEN I ADOPT ONE, I WANNA KNOW EXACTLY WHEN THESE WERE CHANGED AND WERE THE CORRECT/ QUALITY FLUIDS USED
SO
THE ONLY SURE WAY TO KNOW IS TO KNOCK 'EM OUT YOURSELF AND BEGIN THE CORRECT "SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE" YOURSELF!
I KEEP MY VEHICLES FOR THE LONG HAUL/ GOTTA KEEP UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE SO THEY WILL SURVIVE!
WE HAVE FOUR
'95 DODGE NEON (OUR LAST DITCH SPARE!)
'03 FORD ESCAPE- HER DAILY DRIVER
1977 JEEP CJ-5 - MY PRIMARY DRIVER
1946 WILLYS JEEP -MY "AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE" DRIVER!
YOUR 3.8 LITER SHOULD HOLD 5 QUARTS OF 5W-20 PREMIUM SYNTHETIC BLEND MOTOR OIL WITH A NEW FILTER (CHECK DIPSTICK AFTER IT HAS RUN AND FILLED THE FILTER UP)
IF YOU DO THIS, THIS SHOULD (OR IS SUPPOSED TO) BRING YOU UP TO THE FULL MARK ON THE DIPSTICK. THIS WOULD BE THE SURE FIRED WAY TO VERIFYTHAT YOUR DIPSTICK IS CORRECT
JUST AS A NOTE
"YOU"
ARE SUPPOSED TO CHECK THE OIL AND COOLANT WEEKLY, YEP, WEEKLY! (SEE MR. OWNER'S MANUAL!)
THIS LETS YOU "NOTICE" IF SOMETHING SUDDENLY STARTS DISAPPEARING!
IF YOU DON'T, IT'S SORTA TOO LATE TO CHECK AFTER YOU LOST ALL OF YOUR OIL (AND ENGINE) HALFWAY BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, DUE TO SOMETHING LIKE A ROCK PUNCTURING YOUR OIL PAN!
SO FAR YOU SEEM TO BE WANTING TO DO IT ALL RIGHT
