We started hearing a squeal coming from around the pulleys but before we could figure out which pulley needed to replace the serpentine belts shredded. We replaced the tension pulley and got a new belt. Within 4 days the new belt shredded, so went through the alignment of all pulleys and everything in line the new belt is wandering to the outer edge of the pulleys and can't figure out why.

Hi,

There should be two belts on this vehicle. One is specific to the power steering pump and the other is for the remaining accessories. I attached a picture below. Take a look at it to confirm the belt is routed properly. If it is, let me know which belt is giving you trouble.

If the accessory drive belt is the issue, it is possible you were given a belt that was too big and is causing the problem to occur.

Let me know.

Joe

We replaced it just like the diagram shows. Started it up and at idle it seems to be staying put. Taking it for a test drive tomorrow, we will let you know if this belt will last afterwards.
Thank you.

Hey CarPros, would you happen to know what size serpentine belt my 2002 Kia Sedona should have?
All the auto parts stores have the same belt size on their computers and I'm thinking you may be right about the belt being too wide. I'm not sure where to find the factory size belt. The alternator belt that is.

Hi,

As far as the size is concerned, the belt should be a five rib belt that is 0.69" wide. See pic below for what I'm referring to as the ribs. Note the pic shows six. The length should be 36" (35.99").

Let me know if this helps.

Joe
