Every time we try to start the car the engine does not crank. We have checked the starter and everything with it is fine. Security light is on and stays on when key is turned over. One day my boyfriend was driving and the car shut off in the middle of the road. No warning or indicator of anything that was happening. Had car towed and it has sat ever since. How do I fix this?

First thing is try a spare key or if you do not have one, try cleaning the key you have where the resistor pellet is located and try it again.
The starter is being disabled by the security system because it is not getting a valid code from the key. Either there is something wrong with the key or there is a problem with the security system if a spare key or cleaning the key will not work, then you should have the trouble codes retrieved from the computer modules which might include the theft deterrent module to find out the reason.
You should also check and make sure all the fuses in this diagram are not blown.

I have tried the spare keys and they do not work. We have done a diagnostic scan and there are not any codes that pop up.

Was this a scan tool or just a code reader?
Could it access the theft deterrent module?
