question,

i just had my muffler replaced. when i went to get my car 2 hours after i said for them to do it, i asked them for my muffler back. they said that they already threw it out in the scrap metal and it was picked up.

can they do this? don't i have up to 24 hours to get my car piece back?

it was a good high performance muffler, and i know i could have gotten money for it if i sold it.

thanks so much for your help.

is there a site that i can go to for car mechanic laws ?

Hi there,

It is good business practice to keep customer parts for their inspection, but there is no actual law that requires this (to my best knowledge anyway) this may be different to where you live, i feel that they do have it tucked away for a re sale and a tidy profit and that the old chestnut "sorry but it was just pick up" is a bit of spin, but there is not much that you can do about it, but may be if you get a friend to call and ask about such a muffler is a few days time i think it may magically re appear... worth a try
