2003 Saturn Vue OIL CANISTER REMOVAL AND INSPECTION

2003 Saturn Vue 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

While changing oil today the whole canister assembly
came loose. It is held on by an allen head bolt. I need to know what damage to look for once I get this thing off. Also what tools are required and procedures involved. If it was keyed the key is broke because it turns all the way around. After research I found this is basicly a bad design and this problem is quit common, please help

The main reason they turn is because people over tighten the caps. But iam not a fan of the design myself mainly because so many people go crazy when they tighten down the caps. If u have the cap off then thats good if not u will need a big pair of channel locks to hold the housing while u break loose the cap.I have seen some guys use some oil fiter pliers as well to hold the canister. As far as getting the canister off if it has allen bolt then u will need a 12mm allen socket usually half inch drive kinda hard to find because the size is so big u can try sears or auto parts store.I got mine from a tool truck because I couldnt find one some where else. Remove the canister inspect it for cracks or breaks and make sure the oring looks good if all that looks good then put it back on. When u put the cap back on make sure u just snug it down dont play super man when u put the cap back on lol.
