Six cylinder all wheel drive automatic 80,000 miles.
My power steering does not run all of the time. So far when it works it is okay until I stop the engine. This vehicle has electric power steering. Please help me I love this site.

It sounds like the EPS module is going out becasue there is only two fuses and a controller with a motor that makes up the system. The motor supplies the power steering. But you should check the fuses just to be safe. Here is a guide on how to do the test.
Here are some diagrams (below) that show you how the system works and where the fuse panel is with what fuses to check.

Sometimes when I start the car the electric power steering does not work. Other times it does work. I can turn the car off and back on and might work. There times when you turn it on a it works for a few seconds. I think the unit is bad I will try to get a used one to save money thanks for your help you guys are the best on the internet :)

Here is the fuse I thought might be causing the problems.
Replace the fuse with a known good fuse. If the problem continues, the problem may lie within the electronic power steering module. Located at the steering column. Unfortunately, diagnostic for the system is not available.
