2002 Saturn Vue catalytic converter

we had the catalytic converter replaced in may. The alternator went bad this week. We had it repaired but the repair man said that our catalytic converter is bad. I called the shop it was replaced at and they said they fixed the back and it must be the front. I have NO car knowledge at all does this sound right. The car wont speedup and it smells weird.

yes u have front and rear cats u have one comming off the exhuast manifolds which are the fronts and the rear cat which is the main cat.it does sound like a plugged see if they did a back pressure test to determine if the cat was plugged and which cat there saying is bad.let me know what u find out.
