I have a 2002 Saturn SL2 that is having transmission pressure problems. The service manager where I had it towed to originally thought that the seal around the filter cracked and leaked the fluid out causing the problem (not knowing at the time of the pressure build up). However, once a new filter and fluid was installed, upon starting my car, it pressure built up immediately and blew off the new filter and leaked out the replaced fluid. He told me that a Saturn transmission is not a GM transmission so the techs in the shop could not figure out what was causing the pressure build up. It apparently does not have an external pressure valve.

Any ideas?

thats alot of pressure its true that its differnt from the other gm transmissions it was bulit for saturn like the engine in ur car.there pretty simple transmissions there basicially a manual trans with clutch packs.now
to ur problem i have seen a filter blow off on those transmissions before.what regulates the pressure in them is a pressure regulator its located in upper valve body i have seen them stick or the spring break in them allow too much pressure to bulid.they use to sell a upper valve body kit by itself but now they make u by a whole valve body very expensive.theres a company that sells the upper valve body and they say that there improved in the regulator department.its www.omegamachine.com i just starting talking them about them.there under 200 the whole valve body is over 500 start with checking the pressure regulator let me know what u find.
