1999 Saturn SL2 transmission will not go into reverse

The reverse gear stopped functioning immediately with no previous symptoms whatsoever w/transmission. I also noticed when car is in the reverse gear, if engine idle is extremely high enough the car does slightly begin to move backwards very very slowly but I can assure you that does not happen on a regular basis.
