2001 Saturn SL1 High Reving

When the car is in neutrual it revs high occasionaly, to stop it I have to turn the car off. I was wondering what that could be. At Idle the car hovers around 12-1300 rpms and sometimes revs up like I am pressing the gas pedal down.

Sounds like the fast idle sensor. It has another name for it, air control valve or something like that, any shop will probably know what it is. It's a part that would cost about 40 to 50 bucks at Auto Zone.
