My mom has a 2001 Saturn SL series. When she starts it the engine vibrates and when she puts it in gear is goes but very slow and she can smell gas after it is running a little while.

So when you say the engine starts but vibrates you mean it's miss firing?Also do you have any trouble codes in the computer?Do you have to ever put the gas pedal all the way to the floor to start it?

No, it just vibrates a lot. No codes have been detected yet. And no you don't have to push the pedal all the way down.

For the vibration I would check the upper motor mount really common for them to tear and collapse it's located right by the valve cover on the passenger side. Also what do you mean when you put it in gear it goes real slow?Do you have any code's?
