Suspension problem
2001 Saturn SL1 Automatic 117000 miles

Today I hit a pothole and the bottom coil of the suspension spring of my passenger side front tire came down and punctured and subsequently shredded my tire.

Is this a difficult repair? Is it one I can do at home, or do I need to take it in? What is an approximate cost of this type of repair?

The strut on this type of vehicle is under tension and requires a strut spring compressor to relieve tension. If you hit a pothole hard enough to have the spring pop off the strut I would check for other damage such as the tie rods, control arm, knuckle, and strut to make sure that they are not bent. Then you will need an alignment
