1999 Saturn SL1 Loud sound when shifting gear

1999 Saturn SL1 4 cyl Automatic 109000 miles

Loud sound when shifting from park to reverse, doesnt do it in other gears. Almost sounds like a problem with the transmission, not sure or if this is normal, just bought this car used for my teenage son.

If it's like a loud claking or slapping noise it's the reverse servo piston moving into place and it's spring loaded so it has to over come the spring pressure to engage reverse it has fork attached to it that moves a sleeve on the input shaft to allow the transmission to move the car in reverse. It can be pretty loud sometimes. Let me know if u have any other questions.
