1998 Saturn SL1 my car is idleling high and stops running

Hi I just purchased a 98 saturn sl only has 20 thous miles on it when I get to a quarter of a tank of gas it starts getting relly sluggish then it wont start after I put some gas inn it finally started now when I idle r in neutral it idles at 4-5 rpms the check engine light is on now and it had the service light on what could be my problem

The first thing that you need to do is go to a auto part's store like auto zone and have your code's read and let me know what the code number's are. That's where we need to start. High idle's are usually a vacuum leak but if we have the code's it could lead us right to the problem.
