1997 Saturn SL1 Difficult Getting Auto Trans Out of Park

If I place the transmission in Park and park overnight, it can take hours to get the transmission to shift out of park. I need to start car up and depress the shift lever lock and keep it depressed until the transmission finally releases and I can shift out of Park.

Do u have a multimeter so we can do some testing?sometimes the shifter assembley get gummed up with soda coffee etc and doesn't release properly.Let me know.
