Had some backfiring and car wouldn't start. three days later car started with a lot of white smoke for a few minutes, then none. I was told the #2 has no compression. My question is can the car keep running for around town driving, and is this dangerous? I don't want to put much money into it.

The car will start and run this way, but you should only drive it to a shop to get it repaired. If it runs for so long with this problem it can cause carbon build up in the non-functioning cylinder and cause some major problems.
