I have just put on a 180 amp alternator on my saturn. But whenever I put a load on it the belt squeals loudly and voltage drops until I take the load off. Belt tension is normal too. I have never had this problem until now. Is there any kind of remedy for this? The alternator works fine at idle putting out 14.6 volts. The belt only squeals when I turn on more accesories.

HI there,

Thank you for the donation,

First thing to do is remove the belt and clean all the pulleys of any trace of grease or any evil belt grip in a can that may have been used at some stage, fit a good quality new belt, and re tension, this should fix your problem, and don't forget to check the tension after a week or so as all new belts will stretch a little after first installation.
