I took my car into a repair shop for a "high idle" problem. they replaced the PCV. They now tell me that my car may have a bad head gasket or crack in head. Cost to repair aprrox.$2000.00.

How can I tell if they are correct or just trying to screw me?

Thank you in advance . . . .

go for a second opinion, i mean you can probably get a used motor and have it installed for less than that, I have a feeling you went to a dealer,is this true?
