i currently have a totaled 96 saturn sl1. if i bought a 98 saturn sl1 with no engine, would i be able to take the engine from the 96 saturn sl1 and put it in the 98 saturn sl1.

on the part where it asked me to choose my engine type i chose a random option. i dont know if it is a 4 cyl engine

p.s. if it is compatible, how much money do you think it would cost to get the new engine in, would anything need to be switched out

If the 8th digit of the VIN# is the same on both cars, you should be able to swap them over. You may hvae to call around for estimates on the job, sometimes shops charge differently when dealing with heavily damaged cars as it can make the job more difficult
