1998 Saturn Sedan idling

The vehicle started idling at a very high rpm, so high that you have to press hard on the brake to keep the vehicle from pulling off when put in drive.

Remove the air intake duct from throttle body insure that the throttle plate closes all the way. If that is ok remove the idle air control solenoid and make sure nothing is lodged inside of it. If that does not help look for vacuum leaks.
