what are possible causes that my heater does not get warm?

there are a few but lets try this first when the engine is hot make sure both top and lower radiiator hoses are hot also check heater hoses at the firewall make sure those are both hot that will make sure u have flow of coolant threw ur cooling system if u have that then we will go inside the car.also is ur temp gauge going up like it should?let me know.
