Hi. My check engine soon light came on yesterday in my 1999 saturn sc2. I took it to shucks and autozone because they have free testing with the code readers. Well at both places the code readers, when plugged into the slot under the dash, failed to read anything. It would start and you could see the lights blinking but no error code or any kind of transmission could be retrieved. Even the workers at both places came out and tried and were stumped as to why my car was not sending a signal to the code reader.

So, what could cause my connection/car to not send any type of communication to these devices? I need to get that light off but can't until I get a code. Is there fuses for that, or whatnot? Could it be shorted somehow? Thanks.

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated

Check fuse #15 (body) in instrument panel fuse box .. this is for the DLC (data link connector) ..also check the wiring is good to the rear of the DLC .. it could also be a bad PCM (computer) causing the non communication !!

Hope this helps

I was wondering why the auto locks didn't work either so I found the body fuse and it was not even in there, so I put one in and now the auto locks work and will be going to the parts store to try out the device again and see if it will detect my engine light problem. When I bought this car the person had left the sunroof open in the rain, and shorted some fuses including the sunroof which I replaced. I think the guy pushed the roof down as when you push the open/close button you can hear the motor and a click click sound as it is trying to open and close the roof but it stays shut. Anyways, will respond and let you know when I get back from the parts store, thanks again for the advice, greatly appreciated!
