1997 Saturn SC2 wll not start

my saturn wont start at all it wont even turn over and when i does turn over it runs at 500 rpms then shuts off and back fires i have no clue on what could be wrong or where to start

Check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter and fuel pump if okay clean out the idle air control valve and see what happens.
